Where To Buy?
After looking around the internet a bit i found a few sites that sell metal cabinets. Sites such as the B&Q DIY website
have a few products but the main sites for metal kitchen cabinets, if you are thinking about buying online would be the
auction site eBay.
It is recommended that you to go to a local store and check up on the metal kitchen cabinets you want for a start, and then buy from one of these sites if you wish to do so.
Painting Question:
"We have an old house with metal kitchen cabinets. These things are real solid but were pretty dirty when we moved in.
While cleaning, I used a bleach cleaner to remove some of the build up. This turned out to be a bad idea because there
apparently were tiny little holes in the paint finish and these began to rust. Now I have little pinpricks of rust over
much of the surface of my metal kitchen cabinets.
The question is, can I fix this? My thought is to strip the existing paint (enamel) and re-paint but I don't really know
how to do it. I have gone as far as to think of removing a door and taking it to an auto body shop. Do you have any
suggestions of less-drastic measures that I could do myself?
Answer:
Chemical stripping the metal kitchen cabinets would be the best, but I don't think it's necessary. If you can sand or
wire brush the cabinets to get rid of the loose rust and knock the gloss down, you should be able to refinish them with a rust
inhibitive primer and an enamel topcoat.
You can use either a water based or alkyd based system. Some of the new waterborne enamels provide hardness and
durability like an alkyd, but don't yellow like an alkyd. Removing the doors would make the job a lot easier, since then
you'll only have to prepare and paint the frames in the kitchen.
